Underground Railroad
Evening,
This will be the last post of the class I was taking, African Americans, slavery and education of free slaves. todays bus trip took us to a couple of slave graveyards ( flag markers). Then the last stop on the bus trip was a stop on the underground railroad. It is unusual for anyone to have a marker of the underground railroad. The routes of the underground railroad was never marked for fear of retribution.
I am glad I took this class even though on many class days I didn't get home until very late. I also learned that growing up in the north (NJ/NY) I didn't know of segregated schools but people of my same age went to segregated schools in Virginia. Life was different north and south of the Mason/Dixon line.
Now to wait for the fall classes to be listed, I want to take the next class on the civil war.
New Bed
I get a new bed today, it is quite expensive, I got sticker shock when I saw the cost of new matress and boxspring. Its been so long since I purchased a bed, I couldnt believe it.
But I did it! I also purchased a head and foot board to go along with it. I was tired of my bed looking like it was still at the show room.
So now I am waiting for the delivery. When it is all set up I will post a picture of it.
Monday, the place gets a new coat of paint. I am so unsure of colors but I hope the one I selected will transition nicely from the living area to the kitchen/dining area. It will take some time to get everything together and in place. I don't want to rush to make purchases then realize I don't like what I have purchased.
I thought I had phone service, only to plug the phone into the wall and realize I don't have any service. No longer does a repairman come out to check the line, I need to do that, if i ask for a repairman from the phone company to come out, it is a additional cost. When did customers become the repair person? So now I hope I can check out the phone myself to find out if it is the house wiring or the wiring coming into the town house! I was even told if it is raining don't do anything, damn when did I become the repair person?

I have gone green myself. When I go to the grocery store I bring my reusable bags with me. Evening,
I have been here several times over the past day or 2 but just couldn't find the energy to leave a message. Back to school after Spring Break has been tough, a new home, everything in different places then where it was in my little apartment. Can't seem to get back into routine. And it has been hot, wait not just hot but HOT. Its a few days into April and the temperature at my school was in the 90's today! What happened to spring and gradually getting into the heat of the summer months. Even the library at school where my office is had been extremely warm. Teaching in a enclosed environment is tough and not just that but the building itself has its temperature regulated centrally with the rest of the schools in the district. So I am certain there is a school where it has been extremely cold. For me it is easier to put clothes on when chilled then removing clothing when its too hot. Which isn't possible at school.
Its Tuesday and I just remembered I will be beginning my professional development class tomorrow. The county I teach in is rich in history. And tomorrow I begin a class on black history beginning with slavery. I love local history. Virginia is so rich in history from the beginning in the 1400's to the present. Right now I am watching and listening to the History channel, the program is about how each state got its shape. I always wondered why all the states don't look alike, 'squares'. It's cool to know just how each state got its unique look. But from 30,000 feet you don't see the boundaries just beautiful country.
My life has been stange lately. I won't go into the fact that I thought I was locked out yesterday! Out of my new home! Or that when I came out of the store and couldn't find my car especially with it right in front of me. Go ahead smile, I am certain its happened to you. I got scared!

Been There... Done
An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution.
His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed.
As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him about, 'What time of night to be getting home is this? Where have you been? Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it'.
And on and on and on. Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a shot of whiskey and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs.
While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight.
Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go up stairs and give him the good news..

Spring isnt Summer yet
Evening,
It has been warm this past week. I knew a couple of days in the 50's brings out the summer clothing, short shorts and flip flop sandals! I don't own flip flips no matter the color or style. I just don't find where there is a appropriate place to wear them. Not just that I feel that I have ugly toes. On one foot have such ugly scars from surgery and the other foot the toes are just ugly. If asked what part of my body I would like to replace it would be my feet first then a breast reduction.
But anyway enough about me. People need to purchase a mirror. And before they leave home check themselves out in the mirror.
I always do, I am so aware of my appearance. If I don't feel comfortable in my clothing, I don't wear the clothing.

Spring and Valentine's Day
Evening,
I posted articles I found in the news. I found them to be interesting. We were talking today, waiting for a student to come back from lunch, she had on a blouse that had alittle tie that tied the blouse closed, but today it was loosely tied and I noticed her bra. You all know how much I like lace and sheer fabrics. This other teacher's black bra was just that, at least what I could see of it. I so wanted to ask her where she bought that bra. I have been in J C Penney's and Kohl's and they didn't have such a sheer, lace bra. I probably need to get to other department stores at a bigger mall. Its time to wake up the buyers for department stores, we need new colors, styles and fabrics in the lingerie department, especially in the larger sizes, I am not a itty bitty.
